WESTONE HOUSING WELCOMES NEW APPRENTICE JAKE TO THE TEAM

Westone Housing welcomes new apprentice Jake to the team

Westone Housing would like to welcome new apprentice Jake Bedford to the team, as part of our continued commitment to invest in the workforce of tomorrow.

Jake, a local 16-year-old who has just finished school, will be starting his level 2 carpentry apprenticeship with Westone Housing and Peterborough Regional College imminently.

Jake’s interest in the company started when the Westone Housing team carried out some work at his grandfather’s house. Jake took a keen interest in the work being undertaken and after some lengthy discussions expressed an interest in the apprenticeship scheme the company offers.

Being an apprentice appealed to Jake as it offered him the opportunity to gain valuable practical non-textbook experience whilst continuing his education.

Jake will be studying the city and guilds level 2 NVQ in carpentry, an industry wide recognised qualification in which both Jake’s practical competency and academic understanding will be regularly assessed both at the Peterborough Regional College’s workshop and also through onsite observations at Westone Housing.

Our apprentices are given regular feedback from Team Leaders as well as Project Managers. In addition, our HR Department have regular ‘catch up’ meetings to check on their wellbeing and individual progress. We have a close working relationship with the college which ensures the harmony between practical and theory based work is both beneficial and balanced.

Peterborough Regional College provides the training for all of our apprentices and has done since we started recruiting trainees back in 2014. The college is local to the business, well equipped and offers some of the best training facilities in the area.

Jake commented “I’m really excited about starting my carpentry apprenticeship, I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to start a new job where I will learn lots of new skills and be able to go to college at the same time to get qualified.”

We look forward to Jake joining the team and will do all we can to support him throughout his apprenticeship and on into his career.
