WESTONE HOUSING, PROUD SPONSOR OF PETERBOROUGH LITERACY TRUST BOOKBENCH

We are proud to announce that we have sponsored a bench in Peterborough Reads new trail of BookBenches across the city, organised by the Literacy Trust for Peterborough.

We are proud to announce that we have sponsored a bench in Peterborough Reads new trail of BookBenches across the city, organised by the Literacy Trust for Peterborough.

The Peterborough Reads BookBenches project has been designed to bring literacy to life, inspire a love of reading and make a real difference to the future lives of children in the local area.

With Director Liz Lucking already involved in the Peterborough Literacy Trust and with several employees and customers having children in the local schools, when we heard that one-third of Peterborough children leave primary school with a reading ability below the national average, we wanted to support the Peterborough Reads project and its mission for change.

Produced by Wild at Art and Peterborough Reads, and organised by the Literacy Trust for Peterborough, the BookBenches project has been carefully designed to improve reading and writing skills and consequently grow the confidence of local school children, enabling them to build on their aspirations.

Over the last year, the children of eleven participating Peterborough schools have been busy designing and decorating bench sculptures, taking their inspiration from reading and stories.

This week the new BookBenches have been installed and revealed at multiple venues across the city including museums, shopping centres, cultural hubs and libraries, together forming the framework of the new Peterborough Reads BookBench city trail.

Here at Westone Housing, we whole heartedly welcomed the opportunity to be part of making a positive change in the local community, and have greatly enjoyed seeing the project come to fruition. We very much look forward to following the BookBench trail around the city.
